Fond memories of my Uncle Norman

Created by wendy 3 years ago

Uncle Norman was a loving, kind hearted and gentle man, who always had a lovely shy smile and an unmistakable smooth Bajan accent.

Uncle Norman was married to my aunty and had my two amazing cousins Hazel and Tracey.  Hazel, Tracey, my younger sister and I were like sisters when we were children.  When we lived in Stevenage I remember every Sunday afternoon our families would all meet for Sunday lunch together, a gathering we would always look forward to.  Uncle Norman and my aunty would either come to my parents house in Pin Green or we would go to their home in St Nicholas. As the afternoon progressed, lunch was eaten, the men Uncle Norman and my dad would pop out to the local pub.  Uncle Norman and my dad were always great friends.

When I came back to the UK, Uncle Norman welcomed me into his home and allowed me to stay with him and Tracey until I found my feet.   I remember the wonderful aromas of delicious Caribbean cooking coming from his kitchen.  He introduced me to dumplings with cornmeal and the wonderful Bajan cou-cou – what a delight!

I remember always bumping into him on my way to work when he was a bus conductor and more recently in the supermarket in Lewisham when he was topping up his weekly shop. He would always ask about the family and we’d catch up on his latest travels and talk about the new destinations he aspired to travel to.

He was a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and friend who was always there for the people he loved.  Uncle Norman, you will never be forgotten and will always be remembered with love and fond memories.
